Le cinématographe (Château, 25 octobre 1897)

La société Walker & Company organise une séance spéciale au château de Balmoral en présence de la reine d'Angleterre. C'est Paul Robello qui s'occupe de la projection des vues animées :

CINEMATOGRAPH EXHIBITION AT BALMORAL.
By command of the Queen, Messrs Walker & Company, Aberdeen, save cinematograph and optical lantern exhibition on Monday at Balmoral Castle, in presence of the Court and the members of the Royal Household. The programme of cinematograph pictures was of considerable length, great variety, and exceptional interest and attractiveness. Very appropriately, there was first thrown on the screen the firm’s excellent series of views illustrative of the London procession in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty’s reign, including the arrival at Buckingham Palace, the Life Guards and mounted band of Dragoons, the Royal Horse Artillery, the Naval Brigade, Her Majesty’s carriage, and the Colonial troops. It was a happy idea also, in view of the great distinction the Gordon Highlanders have been achieving in the Indian frontier operation, to give the place of honour, immediately after the jubilee procession, pictures representing the members of the regiment stationed at the depot in Aberdeen engaged in bayonet exercise and volley firing, and the 2nd Battalion leaving Maryhill Barracks, Glasgow. Considerable interest attached to the two items —the one showing Her Majesty’s arrival at Ballater, with the Royal guard of honour, the Royal Scots, and Deeside Highlanders; the other the march past of the clans, and the dancing a Highland reel at the Braemar gathering. There followed in succession, "Train arrival at station;” “Scene with a gardener in a pleasure park;" "Near Union Bridge, Aberdeen"; "Snowballing and bicycle spill the Pantomime;" “Clowns—the long and the short of it;" and “ The conjuror,” the programme closing with the representation of an artist sketching portrait of Her Majesty the Queen. Between the cinematograph pictures, selected floral and classical tableaux, together with dioramic effects, were exhibited ; and it may be mentioned that the tableau given in connection with the pictures of the Gordon Highlanders was a Highland cottage, representative of Home, sweet home.” At the close the National Anthem was played. The entertainment was under the direction of Mr William Walker. Mr Paul Robello was cinematograph operator ; Mr Hamish M. Beveridge and Mr William M‘Donald were optical lanternists; and Mr Burwood Nicholls was organ and pianoforte accompanist.
