Tom Green et sa famille sont installés à Gravesend depuis [1876] et la plupart de ses enfants y sont nés. Dès la fin des années 1870, Tom Green entame une vie d'acteur et il figure comme "Comedian et Scenic Artist" au recensement de 1881 (Gravesend). Il organise des spectacles de pantomime.

Il poursuit sa carrière dans les années 1890. Il vit à New Shoreham, en 1891, lors du recensement et figure comme "Dramatic artist". C'est en 1897 qu'il va commencer sa carrière cinématographique sous la responsabilité de George Albert Smith pour lequel il tourne plusieurs vues animées. Il n'en délaisse pas pour autant les spectacles scéniques où il joue fréquemment le rôle de clown. En 1901, la famille habite Preston (recensement 1901). La collaboration avec Smith se prolonge jusqu'en 1903. Il semble avoir commencé une production personnelle vers 1905. La presse reflète les activités de Tom Green :

WANTED, Known, Mr. Tom Green, having so much of his time devoted to the production of his celebrated Cinématograph Picture, is open to Sell or Let some of his best music hall sketches, ballets, and pantomime scenes. The Studio, 106- Fairholme-road, Croydon.

En 1906, il travaille également pour d'autres sociétés comme Cricks and Sharp ou Gaumont : 

MR. TOM GREEN, who is so well known for his picture productions, in addition to turning out new sensations for the Walturdaw Co. and Gaumont and Co. has just finished one of the longest comical yet seen, 1000ft., for the well-known firm of Cricks and Sharp, and is still busy at his studio at Croydon.

Il continue ses activités l'année suivante :

MANAGERS who are desirous of building up their Christmas productions with complete harlequinade or shadow pantomime would do well to consult the notice incerted in our advertisement columns by that well-known comedia, stage-manager, and clown. Mr Tom Green, whose cinematograph picture productions are so widely known.

En 1911, il réside à Wood Green où il figure comme "scene painter" (recensement 1911). Il décède en 1942.
