BARNUM AND BAILEY'S SHOW AT SUNDERLAND.
The Bank Holiday at Sunderland was unusually important public carnival owing to the long-looked-for visit of Mrss Barnum and Bailey's exhibition' the tents and caravans in connection with which are now fixed near Roker Park. The day opened with a cloudless sky and brilliant sunshine, and these conditions continued until the ovening. The procession through the principal streets of the town was announced to leave the Roker ground at nine o'clock, and before that hour there were thousands people astir. The procession through the chief thoroughfares was witnessed by an enormous number of spectators, all available windows being requisitioned, and the roadways being a most congested condition. From this period onward the streets had a most lively aspect, and last night they were still crowded with the visitors who had come from far and near to have peep at the American wonders. The scene in the vicinity of the show ground was of an intensely animated description, and this state of affairs will continue until to-night when the exhibition is take its departure.
