Le Vitascope de William T. Rock (Opera House, 7-12 décembre 1896)
William T. Rock présente un vitascope en décembre :
Edison's Vitascope at Our Opera House.
Mr. Wm. T. Rock, the owner and manager of the world-celebrated Edison's Vitascope, will have an exhibition at our Opera house every night this week. This will be good news to the patrons of the Opera house, because there has been somewhat of a scarcity of entertainments for the past few weeks.
The Vitascope exhibition has just concluded a long and most successful run at New Orleans, and the critical papers of that city give it unbounded praise. The Times Democrat of June 29th, says of it:
There was an exceptionally large crowd even for Sunday night, at West End, the especial attraction being the opening exhibition of Edison's latest wonder, the "Vitascope." This machine so named because it exhibits life, is indeed a wonder. contributing one of the most taking attractions ever seen in the Crescent City. Two series of bright clean cut life size views were shown, and the novelty of life size pictures with moving figures, fairly took the crowd by storm. Everybody was enthusiastic over the entertainment."
The Picayune is even more enthusiastic than the Times Democrat in its comment on the Vitascope exhibition, and devotes two-thirds of a column to it. In New York city the Vitascope continues to be an unrivalled attraction.
Our citizens may deem themselves fortunate that this most interesting wonder has been brought to their doors. The moderate price of admission to the Opera house, and the excellence of the entertainment, should cause the house to be crowded every night during the entire week.

Dans un nouvel article, le programme est détaillé :
The Vitascope.
The best audience of the season was in attendance at the Opera house last night, to witness the wonderful and most interesting Vitascope exhibition. The regular programme of sixteen scenes was given, and in addition the "camel parade" and another excellent scene was given by request.
Among the best scenes last night were: "The Rescue, House on Fire:" first act of "the Milk-white Flag;" "Lynching of a Horse-thief;" "The Kiss, May Irwin and Johnnie Rice;" "Acrobatic Dance, Leigh Sisters;" "Prize Fight between Corbett and Courtney, the knockout round;" "The Waves at Dover, England," "The Lightning Express Train,", and the ever popular "Lone Fisherman."
The lynching scene and the prize fight scenes were so realistic that people of sensitive natures were somewhat shocked by them, but they elicited hearty applause.
"The Acrobatic Dance of the Leigh Sisters' was much admired. Indeed, all of the scenes were heartily encored, and gave unlimited satisfaction to the large audience.
Tonight a grand programme will be rendered including some brand-new scenes just received from New York.
To-morrow afternoon at 4 o'clock another Matinee performance will be given which will offer a splendid opportunity for the ladies and the school children to witness this modern wonder. An especially attractive programme has been provided for the Matinee.
