El Cinematógrafo (Government School, 4 de febrero de 1899)

Una función cinematográfica se organiza en el Government School:

ENTERTAINMENT AT AROUCA.
ON Friday evening, at the Government School Arouca, the Greyfriars young men's entertainment Committee gave a performance of what was advertised as the "Cinematograph." This name led many persons to believe that the instrument would be the one recently shown by Professor Lumiere at the Princes Builings; and great was the disappointment in consequence. The entertainment, however, was fairly successful, among the best pieces being "The arrival of the Fire Brigade" "The Swiming Bath"; and "Transporting a Boiler." The picture entitled The Diamond Jubilee Procession was generally considered to be very poor compared with what has been seen elsewhere. The entertainment was interspersed with songs and soloes, in which parts were taken by Messrs H. O. Fereira, C. B. Franklin, J. J. Waddell, and R. H. Black. The night was fine and the audience all that could be desired in point of numbers; and we have no doubt that financially the performance was a success.

WE would draw the attention of the folks of Sangre Grande to the grand treat in store fort them to night by the exhibition of the Projectographe. We hope none of them, if possible, will not miss this opportunity.

THE PROJECTOGRAPH
As we anticipated, Prof. Daniel's Projectograph as managed by Mr. W. H. Whiteman, the Photographer, has proved to be quite a success. With the exception of the dolls, the entertainment is just as good as ever. Mr. Whiteman renders the songs very fairly indeed and his articulation, is so distinct that it is quite easy to follow the illustrations thrown in the screen, which is the chief consideration in the successful rendering of these songs.
