Realism could scarcely be more vividly pourtrayed, for instance, than in one of the pictures thrown on the screen last night. It represented the execution of Mary Queen of Scots. Amid a group of armed men, the hapless Queen, attended by one of her ladies-in-waiting, walks with royal dignity to the scaffold. Her head and neck coverings are removed by the attendant ; the Queen kneels for a few moments in prayer, and then places her head on the block. The executioner does his ghastly work, the head rolls off, and is lifted by the axeman and held aloft.
