Le Cinématographe Lumière de Louis Minier (Art Hall, 30 mars-3 avril 1897)
En provenance de Waterloo, Louis Minier organise quelques séances au Art Hall :
Cinematograph Entertainment.
The cinematograph entertainment that is to appear at he Art Hall for five days, commencing next Tuesday, is one well worth attending.
The principle of the cinematograph is quite simple, and was worked out from the scientific fact that the eye retains during the known fraction of a second (1-8 to 1-10 of a second) the impression of everything it sees. Therefore if a series of pictures of any object or collection of objects be presented to the eye in sufficiently rapid succession, the several images will become blended the one into the other so as to form a continuous picture. This is how the cinematograph works. A series of pictures, say one hundred in number, are taken by instantaneous photography, placed in proper succession on a plate, and then flashed on the canvas with sufficient rapidity to form a continuous animated picture.

Il n'est prévu qu'une seule représentation :
BRIEFLETS
The Veriscope that comes here to the Opera House, Saturday evening, is the genuine and only machine authorized by Mr. Dan Stuart for the United States and Canada. The houses are not large enough where it has been exhibited, to accommodate the crowds in attendance. It will bet here one night (Saturday) only Oct. 16th.
Sherbrooke daily record, Sherbrooke, lundi 11 octobre 1897, p. 2.
La projection a effectivement lieu le samedi suivant :
CORBETT-FITZSIMMONS FIGHT BY VERISCOPE.
A large audience assembled in the rink opera house last night to witness the veriscope exhibition on the Corbett-Fitzsimons fight: By their enthusiasm it was evident that they were satisfied with what they saw. It was a faithful reproduction of the Carson City fight and, though the light from the Veriscope was perhaps a trifle weak, every movement of the two gladiators as they fought for fame and money could be plainly seen. Fitz goes downs to his knee in the sixth round and the enthusiasm of the Corbett men around the ring may be seen, as they believe their ‘champion has won, but the Cornish man is again on his feet. The fourteenth round is also pictured faithfully, as Corbett sinks to his knee, and the referee’s hand rises and falls until he touches the Californian on the shoulder and informs him that he is counted out, The wild scene which. followed is also pictured, Corbett rushing wildly about the ring when he realizes that he is beaten and the great enthusiasm of Fitzsimmon’s men as they cluster about the champion.

Dan Stuart se rend ensuite à Québec.
