DESCRIPTION
Scene 1- The Duel. Monsieur Beaucaire, a relative of King Louis of France, fights a duel with the Duke of Winterset, an English nobleman, as the result of a card game. Beaucaire seriously wounds the Duke in a terrific combat.

Scene 2- The Plot. The Duke and Beaucaire, with other cavaliers, are rivals for the hand of the beautiful Lady Mary Somerset. She favors Beaucaire, and the Duke mad with jealousy, arranges the plot to attack his rival on a lonely road and carry off the lady.

Scene 3-The Ambuscade Along a winding road through the woods the lady is being carried in her sedan chair, with the dashing· Monsieur Baucaire in attendance. They are suddenly attacked by the Duke and half a dozen of his burly ruffians. A desperate sword combat now occurs, in which Beaucaire valiantly defends himself and the lady against great odds. He is finally overpowered, and he and the lady dragged away.

Scene 4-In the Dungeon. Beaucaire, now in the power of the Duke, is thrust into a dungeon, while the Duke prepares to marry Lady Somerset. Beaucaire escapes by the aid of a friendly Friar, wearing his cowl and gown as a disguise.

Scene 5 -The Rescue. Beaucaire, disguised as a Friar, is sent for by the Duke, who not knowing that it is his rival, orders him to commence the marriage ceremony.The lady implores the priest to aid her, and Beaucaire discloses himself. The Duke draws his rapier and attacks Beaucaire, but at this moment the door is burst open, and the rescue party, led by the lady's father, arrives, and put a finish to the Duke.

Scene 6-"And they lived happily ever after.'' In a latticed window the lovely lady is watching for her lover, Monsieur·Beaucaire. He arrives and is rewarded, as all brave and gallant lovers should be.

Aventures amoureuses d'un chevalier du XII^e siècle.
(Drame en 6 actes)

1^er acte. Le Duel. - M. Beaucaire et le duc Winterset jouent aux cartes, quand sur un coup douteux éclate une violente dispute. Beaucaire provoque le duc en duel et le blesse après un combat violent.
2^e acte. Le Complot. - Le duc Winterset, Beaucaire . et d'autres gentilshommes font une cour assidue à Lady Somerset, qui accorde la préférence à Beaucaire. Le duc entre en une violente colère, il jure de se venger de son rival et d'enlever Lady Somerset.
3^e acte. L'Agression. - Sachant que Lady Somerset et Beaucaire doivent faire une promenade en forêt, le duc poste ses hommes sur leur passage et à leur apparition ceux-ci s'élancent sur la petite troupe de Beaucaire. Celui-ci se défend vaillamment mais succombant sous le nombre il est fait prisonnier ainsi que Lady Somerset.
4e acte. En prison.-Beaucaire est jeté en prison: Tandis que le duc fait ses préparatifs pour son mariage avec Lady Somerset, Beaucaire avec la complicité d'un moine dont il emprunte les effets, réussit à s'enfuit du cachot.
5e acte. La Revanche.-Le duc fait appeler le moine pour bénir le mariage. Beaucaire sous son déguisement se rend à son appel. Lady Somerset implore sa protection, Beaucaire n'écoutant que son courage, rejette son déguisement s'élance sur le duc. Celui-ci tire son épée, une lutte acharnée corps à corps, s'engage et au moment où Beaucaire va succomber, apparaît, accompagné de ses domestiques, le père de Lady Somerset qui tue le duc.
6^e acte. Lady Somerset et Beaucaire à la fenêtre de leur future demeure se jurent un éternel amour.
