Launch of Surf Boat

Taken at Pacific Coast Life Saving Service, Golden Gate Park Station, Ocean Beach, San Francisco, Cal. , Capt.George H. Varney commanding. The beginning shows the crew of seven men, dressed in cork jackets, wading through the surf and pushing the boat into deep water. When deep water is reached they climb into the boat and row out over the rough surf. The point at which this was taken is the most dangerous on the Pacific Coast, and the most difficult place to launch a boat. The surf is very high, and the boat riding the waves produces a fine effect. The white-capped waves and water breaking on the shore make a beautiful and realistic surf scene. A sharp and clear subject.
