Freight Train

Taken on the line of the Southern Pacifie R.R. Shows a freight train with two engines in front, followed by nineteen freight cars, another engine and caboose. The background is formed by very high mountains, which rise abruptly to immense heights. The scene opens showing the train part way out of a tunnel, creeping slowly around a curve and up a heavy grade to the audience. As the front end comes in the foreground the worst of the grade has been passed and the speed increases. In the centre of the train a brakeman is standing on top of one of the cars. When the rear engine passes the whistle is blown, the escaping steam producing a fine effect. As the train passes out of view the mouth of the tunnel is fully exposed, from which immense volumes of smoke issue forth and rise along the sides of the mountains. A good photograph, the background being especially fine .
