Né de parents français émigrés aux États-Unis, Alfred Abadie passe son enfance à New York. Après le décès de son père, sa mère exerce la profession de couturière et son frère celle de libraire (recensement 1900). Quant à Alfred, le document indique qu'il est "Ship Cl. Whalebone".
La Société Edison (1901-1904)
C'est sans doute peu après, vers 1901, qu'il semble avoir rejoint l'équipe de l'Edison Manufacturing Company où il aurait secondé James Henry White de retour d'un long tour du monde :
Since late 1898 James White may occasionally haver served as his own cameraman, but more typically he worked with Porter or Alfred C. Abadie when producing news fils and actualities.

Dès les premières années du XXe siècle, Alfred Abadie apparaît dans quelques vues animées de la maison Edison dont What Happened on Twenty-Third Street, New York City.

C'est au début de l'année 1903 qu'Alfred Abadie va entreprendre un long voyage au service de la société Edison. Il embarque à bor du S. S. Agusta Victoria de la Hamburg-American Lline le 3 février comme cela est d'ailleurs indiqué dans l'un des catalogues :

El buque ha sido hoy muy visitado, habiendo ejecutado la banda que tiene á bordo escogidas piezas.
Esta noche ha zarpado con rumbo á Argel, prosiguiendo su viaje, que durará setenta y siete días, durante los cuales recorrerá 13.500 millas.

Au catalogue Edison ne figurent pas de vues qui auraient pu être tournées avant son arrivée en Syrie et en Palestine (mars) où le cinématographiste saisit le navire et ses passagers dans Passengers Embarking from S. S. "Augusta Victoria," at Beyrouth (12 mars). Quelques jours plus tard, Alfred C. Abadie prend une vue égyptienne sur des excavations : Excavating Scene at the Pyramids of Sakkarah (27 mars). En avril, il est en Italie et remonte la Botte de Capri à Venise en passant par Naples où il filme Eating Macaroni in the Streets of Naples. La fin de son voyage le conduit en Suisse (avril), puis finalement en France (mai) où il va couvrir le voyage officiel à Paris du roi Édouard VII d'Angleterre. Peu après, il quitte Southampton, le 8 mai et arrive à New York à bord du SS. Augusta Victoria le 17 mai 1903.

Au cours de la seconde moitié de l'année 1903, Alfred C. Abadie voyage aux États-Unis et se rend, en particulier, à Wilmington (Del.) où il revient quelques semaines plus tard :
Ilustrated Songs Start Tonight
Beginning tonight at the Motion Picture Building at Brandywine Springs Prof. Cloward will start his illustrated song of the "Holy City," which has been illustrated in motion pictures by Lubin of Philadelphia. The song will be used three times each evening at 15 minutes after the hour beginning at 8 o'clock and on Sunday afternoons at 4 and 5.15. Prof. Abadie of Edison's factory was a guest of Mr. Cloward last night and succeeded in getting two fine motion pictures for the Springs, one of the baby parade and one of the May pole dance. In addition there are some humorous scenes being prepared.

On lui doit également le film Emigrants Landing, Ellis Island (9 juillet) où l'on voit débarquer de très nombreux migrants. En fin d'année, il interprète le rôle d'un shériff dans le très célèbre The Great Train Robbery, puis pendant quelque huit mois, il arpente le pays où il filme des vues à Baltimore, Bliss, Philadelphie, Atlantic City... Il se rend également au Canada. On ne peut écarter l'idée qu'il est également l'auteur de bien d'autres vues au cours de ses années de collaboration avec la maison Edison.
Et après (1905-1950)
Il semble s'être mis à son compte en 1905 et lors du recensement de cette année-là, il figure comme "photographer", auprès de sa mère et de son frère Auguste. Ses activités le conduisent à voyager de nouveau en Europe et c'est toujours ce métier qu'il exerce lorsqu'il est de retour de Liverpool en août 1905. Au recensement de 1910, il figure toujours comme photographe. Alfred Abadie va se rendre, à nouveau, à de nombreuses reprises sur le Vieux Continent : 1911 (New York-Plymouth). Il semble avoir combiné des activités cinématographiques et sa profesion de photographe. En 1917, il tourne le film Birth pour le compte de producteur Alfred Warman directeur de l'Eugenic Film. La visée nataliste du film est bien entendu manifeste.

Lors de la 1re guerre mondiale, son matricule américain (1917) indique qu'il est cinéaste et qu'il travaille pour la Eugenic Film Company. Le film va, toutefois, connaître des ennuis avec la censure :
WAYS TO BEAT FILM CENSOR AIRED
Methods of getting a film play past a censor were dealt with in the testimony in a suit of Alfred C Abadie against Henry P Caulfield to recover on two promissory notes for $3000, which was ordered submitted on briefs today in Judge Monroe' s court.
Caulfield, it was testified, was the owner of a production called "Birth" which was barred by censors in several cities. When it was produced in San Francisco, it was declared, Caulfield was arrested.
Abadie then joined with Caulfield, the latter said in an effort to produce the film in Seattle and Portland. Abadie, Caulfield said, told him the thing to do was to get some woman's club or charitable organization to indorse the production.
"He advised," said Caulfield "that when I went to Seattle or Portland I should first show the films to some foundling hospital and try to get their cooperation to influence the censor board He suggested giving the hospital or any state charity a percentage of the earnings or receipts to obtain their influence."
Caulfield declared it was agreed that the notes given to Abadie were not to be presented for payment unless the film was passed by the censors of Seattle and Portland.

Sur son passeport (1920), Alfred Abadie est employé par "The Cinematograph Co." Au cours des années qui suivent, il multiplie les voyages en Europe, en particulier, pour faire la promotion du film Bith :
Mr. A. C. Abadie and Mr. Alfred Warman, the New York motion picture producers, are returning to the United States on the Rotterdam this week after two months in Europe. During the past fortnight Mr. Warman has been making arrangements for the exhibition in England and France of the film "Birth".

On ne compte plus alors les séjours qu'il effectue par la suite : 1922 (New York-Southampton), 1922 (Boulogne-New York), 1923 (Boulogne-New York), 1924 (Boulogne-New York), 1925 (Boulogne-New York), 1926 (Boulogne-New York), 1928, avril 1928 (Boulogne-New York), 1929 (Boulogne-New York). 1930 (New York-New York). 1930 (Boulogne-New York)... Sur ses documents officiels, il figurent toujours comme cinéaste (passeport 1923). Il s'installe, par la suite, à San Francisco (1932: liste électorale). Pendant la seconde guerre mondiale, il continue ses activités cinématographiques (1942: Matricule militaire). Il décède en Californie en 1950.
