Before the Kinetograph.
Edward Madden, the genial press manager for the Buffalo Bill Wild West exhibition was in this city on Tuesday. He was accompanied by Frank Hammitt and Lee Martin, two of the world's greatest riders of bucking bronchas. Both are members of the Wild West Combination and are prominent cowboys. Mr. Hammitt, who is the equestrian manager of the Wild West show is native of the plains of Colorado, and Mr. Martin hails from Wyoming. They are both men of nerve, finely built and for men accustomed to rough and ready living they are gentlemanly sort of fellows.
The three carne to Orange on invitation of Professor William K. L. Dickson, the manager of the photo-kinetographic department and chief of the electro-mining at the Edison Laboratory, and the two cowboys brought with them their favorite horses to appear before the kinetograph. Mr. Martin rode Sunfish in an area arranged for the occasion in the rear of the "Black Maria," wherein Mr. Corbett and Mr. Courtney had a "fake" bout with the gloves not long ago. The interior of the "Maria" was not large enough to allow any broncho busting, therefore Mr. Dickson had fenced in a place in the open. Mr. Hammitt was to have mounted his horse El Diablo, but he deemed it advisable not to attempt the act as the place was not large enough, the animal being an extraordinarily dangerous one. While Mr. Martin handled Sunfish, Mr. Hammitt sat on the fence surrounding the pen and fired off his prize revolver a number of limes, thereby adding much excitement and realism to the scene. The revolver was presented to Mr. Hammitt by a nurnber of New York reporters who were detailed at the Wild West show at Ambrose Park on special duty. While there the newspaper men were extended many courtesies by Mr. Hammitt, who, by the way, is chief of the Wild West cowboys, and the revolver was given him as a testimonial of the esteem in which he was held by the scribes. At the conclusion of the broncho bucking Mr. Martin and Mr. Hammitt displayed their abilities before the great kinetograph with the lasso. Professor Dickson was highly pleased with the exhibition as a whole and feels confident that the reproduction  in the kinetoscope will prove a big success. ln taking the saddle off Sunfish, the little kicker got away and for a time it was the sole owner of the Edison yard. Mr. Hammit, however, pluckily gave chase and caught the animal.
The following were the guests of Mr. Dickson who views the bronco bucking from "improved" reserved seats located in the "Black Maria;" Mrs. John L. Seward, of Maint street and her sister, Miss Kember, of Leadville, Col., and Dr. Perry, of San Francisco. Among the newspaper men present was Morris E. Moses of Pittsburg, who is on the staff of the New York Dramatic News.
Toyou Kichi, of Kisto, Japan, the Japanese contortionist and acrobat exhibited before the kinetograph this rnorning. Miss Annie Oakley, the celebrated rifle shot, will exhibit to-morrow.
