Le Biograph Joly et le Cinématographe Lumière (Town Hall, 27-28 août 1897)
Auguste Plane et Charles Lomet annoncent leur biograph Joly et leur cinématographe Lumière à la Town Hall vers la fin du mois d'août:
THE BIOGRAPH.
On Friday and Saturday nights next we shall have the opportunity of seeing th! wonderful Biograph in the Town Hall here an improved cinematographe just out from London, the special feature of which is to take Cinematographic views of unlimited duration. Messrs Plane and Lomet, who have been operators for the first Lumiere's Cinematographe, shown at the Lyceum and Criterion Theatres, Sydney ; Princess, Melbourne; and Royal, Adelaide, bought out on their last trip to France this latest invention "The Biograph," which gives a whole drama as "a high assault in Paris" and one of the greatest illusionist attractions "St Antoine's temptation." Owing to a special material permitting a rapid installation they are enabled to produce this wonderful programme in the country where it is hoped to be as successful as in the large cities. Musical selections will be given throughout the evening. The season will last only two nights.

Un bref article annonce l'inauguration pour le 27 août :
The marvellous Biograph is to be exhibited at the Town Hall, Wollongong to-morrow evening and Saturday b| Messrs. Plane and Lomet, sole representatives of Joly's patent cinematographe. Those who re[...] the amusement column in the Sydney dailies must have noticed the long an enthusiastic notices that appeared on Tuesday morning with respect this wonderful invention, which is characterised as one of the marvels of the age. It is a great improvement on the cinematographe, the illustrations being remarkably clear and life-like. Th[is] management have the reputation being most thorough in their endeave to please and of deserving all the patronage they obtain. The scenes shown are varied and deeply interesting, and include such productions as "The night assault in the streets of Paris, witch all Paris and London thronged to witness when first shown.

La presse offre un compte rendu de la soirée d'inauguration :
THE BIOGRAPH.
An exceedingly enjoyable entertainment was provided at the Town Hall last night, when Messrs. Plane and Lomet exhibited that wonderful invention, the Biograph, which has just been introduced to Australia from Paris. This is exactly similar to the machine imported last week by Mr. Harry Rickards and which since it was first shown on Monday night has attracted crowded, i audiences. The pictures shown last night were exceedingly realistic and were received with unbounded applause. The best of them perhaps was that entitled ' A night assault in the old streets of Paris," in which a band of robbers are shown at tacking and robbing and almost killing a gentleman, to whose assistance policemen come after all the damage is done. This was quite startling in its realism. Another very fine presentation was that of "St Antoine's temptation." The "Serpentine dance" by the famous Louie Fuller and the dance by Miss de Vere, in which the colors were admirably represented, gave great pleasure and elicited hearty rounds of applause. Two other pictures which aroused much enthusiasm were "Scene at corner of King and Elizabeth-streets" and "Manly beach." Many others were shown, and in every case with the greatest possible success. The biograph is a considerable improvement on the cinematograph, inasmuch as it enables the picture to be presented for any length of time the operator pleases.
This evening Lumiere's cinematograph will be exhibited, and in connection with this the Nowra Telegraph says : "The best entertainment that has been afforded the people of Nowra for many years past... Those who were not present missed a treat, and those that were came away thoroughly fascinated and certainly much richer in knowledge of how the other part of the world lives." We hope to [...]ace a crowded house.
