Le magicien David Devant, dont les équipes parcourent le Royaume Uni depuis de nombreux mois, donne quelques représentations dans le Town Hall de Folkestone où des projections animées font partie du spectacle :

TOWN HALL-Lessee, Mr E. g. Chadwick.-Mr David Devant has had a week at this hall, his entertainment is varied and exceedingly good. Miss Melville and Miss Violet Grey do some good work with the banjo and mandolin; Mr Walter R. Booth presents some amusing ventriloquial sketches; Mr Devant fairly taking the house with his clever conjuring, and there are also some excellent animated photographs.

POOLE'S CENTURY COMBINIATION.-On Monday Mr. Chas. W. Poole's delightful entertainment will commence a week's engagement at the Town Hall, after an absence of about six years. The pictures will include views of the Imperial Indian Durbar, the night festivities, and among the specialities will be the marvellous marionette; Cordelia, the kaleidoscopic dancer, the Musical Schafers, the Alzaros, Carl Fredericks (ventriloquist), Mdlle. Rida, the Almos, and last, but not least, the Edison-Poole Eventograph, with miles of up-to-fate films. Tickets at the hall.

Le Cinematograph de Thomas James West présente des vues animées au Town Hall, en août :

WEST'S ANIMATED PICTURES.
For the Bank Holiday week Folkestone visitors have the advantage of a brilliant entertainment at the Town Hall, where Mr. T. J. West's new and amazing coloured animated pictures are delighting large audience. We have had the ordinary cinematograph in many forms, but never before has colour been added to its charm. The Modern Marvel Company, Ltd., introduced the improvement, and it is indeed a marvel. But it is not pictures alone. "Variety is charming," is a very old saying, and here we have a charming variety in the entertainment. Miss Lily Cole, a contralto vocalist with a remarkably good voice, ably renders popular songs. On Monday her singing of the "Village Blacksmith" in response to a call for a repetition of "The Lost Chord" created quite a furore of applause. These songs are illustrated by beautiful lantern pictures, which are very effective. Then Mr. Mattie Cheshire, a disciple of the late Conley Grain (and a very talented one too) presents humorous musical sketches. His fifteen minutes' turn is a most enjoyable interlude, very pleasing to the ears after such a feast for the eyes. The pictures are splendid, and at every performance there is a change of programme. On Monday evening it began with illustrated nursery rhymes with musical accompaniment ; and then followed a wrestling match on a Japanese warship, "London after Dark," the prize winners at the Crystal Palace Dog Show (a delightful lot of beautiful dogs and scenes in the show), the "Order of the Bath" (a little girl washing a dog), " Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves," "Gulliver's Travels" and "Robinson Crusoe." Folkestone Day-by-Day" is right up-to-date. Prefacing a series of pictures showing the progress of the latest London great fire, the Folkestone firemen in the competitions at Faversham evoked round upon round of applause. In the views representing the arrival of President Loubet at Dover, several Folkestone worthies can be recognised. "The Shamrock Trials" and "The Motor Derby" are among the latest additions, and one can realise the enormous extent of the famous yacht's sails as she flies through the water and rounds the buoy. Another "story without words" is "The Sleeping Beauty," the well-known fairy tale told by 40 magnificent animated and coloured scenes. These are not by any means all. These modern marvels continue for a couple of hours without a break. The cinematograph has made their Majesties the King and Queen perfectly familiar to all their subjects ; and in this entertainment they are shown in actual life taking part in the recent Irish festivities. In every way it is a great spectacular treat, and as the exhibition is given twice daily (at three and eight) there is opportunity for all to witness it. Les Animated Photographs de la Maskelyne & Cooke's Provincial Company (Town Hall, 17-24 août 1903)

David Devant est de retour à Folkestone, avec sa troupe, pour une semaine, à l'été 1903. Les artistes ont donné quelques représentations à Hastings. À Folkestone, les séances vont avoir lieu, au Town Hall, à partir du 17 août 1903, pour une seule semaine.

Chose assez exceptionnelle, la presse va se faire l'écho de la projection de quelques vues. Il faut dire que la nouveauté réside dans le fait qu'elles sont en couleurs : "A short series of animated photographs varies the programme. It is, perhaps, the first time that Folkestone audiences have had an opportunity of seeing living pictures in colours. The Alps are finely depicted." (Folkestone, Hythe, Sandgate & Cheriton Herald, 22 août 1903, p. 4.) Les Alpes semblent être le sujet de ces vues en couleurs... mais plus aucune autre information ne permet d'en savoir davantage. Les artistes quittent Folkestone et se rendent, quelques jours plus tard, à Douvres.
