THE EMPIRE (NEWPORT).
The great attraction at the cosy Charles-, street Hall is the Lumiere Cinematography, under the direction.of M. Trewey. As at Cardiff- this new feat of science was greeted with hearty plaudits, one and all present testifying to the fact that they had not seen such a marvellous show before. An excellent variety company are responsible for the remainder of the programme, and under able leadership each performance is well executed.

THE EMPIRE (NEWPORT).
As at Cardiff last week so at Newport. At both performances on Monday evening the original Lumiere Cinematographe, under the able direction of Mons. Trewey, delighted large audiences. Besides this big attraction, there also appeared Tom and Lily English, the entertaining Americans; Miss Belle Harcourt, the Perman Trio, Van Gofre, Haig and Haig, and Miss Lena Brunton. The performance all round is one of high-class excellence, and thoroughly deserves the patronage bestowed upon it on Monday evening.

THE EMPIRE (NEWPORT).
Here the incomparable Lumiere Cinematographe was the principal attraction, and the new pictures shown under the supervision of Mr Trewey were of a very interesting and entertaining description. Ogust, the French clown and mimic, who scored such a big success at Cardiff, was also there, and his performance met with a most flattering reception. Supporting him were such talented artistes as George Mozart, the Brothers Lang, and the Sisters Bonehill.

L'American Biograph (Newport Theatre, 12->12 juillet 1897)
L'American Biograph arrive en juillet au Newport Theatre :
NEWPORT.
The American Biograph, which has been recently creating such interest wherever exhibited, will be the principal attraction at the Newport Empire this weak. That uniquely popular cornedienne, Peggy Pryde; the O'Malleys, in Funology; Phil Ray, comedian and the three charming Sisters Macarte are other contributors to an excellent programme.

Le lendemain, le même journal offre quelques informations complémentaires :
THE EMPIRE (NEWPORT)
As at Cardiff las week the American Biograph was the principal attraction as the pretty hall in Charles-street. The life-size reproductions of pictures by the Biograph created a sensation, and here alos were to be seen and heard the inimitable Peggy Pryde, as well as a host of artistes of acknowledged talent. It goes without saying that the audiences waxed enthusiastic.

South Wales Echo, Thursday 17 Mars 1898, p. 4.
EXCELLENT ENTERTAINMENTS-were those given at the Medina-hall on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings by one of the concert touring companies of the proprietor Nestle’s milk and Sunlight Soap. The counter-attraction of a circus doubtless militated against the attendance, which was only fair, but the audiences made up in enthusiastic appreciation what they lacked in numbers. A remarkably interesting and realistic exhibition of animated photographs was given, depicting incidents in the Anglo-Australian cricket matches, the last University boat race, a Spanish bull-fight, and stirring London street scenes, including exciting incidents of large fire and the dashing and heroic services of the Fire Brigade. The rendering by the graphophone of popular songs and band music, and also a portion of the late Mr. Gladstone’s last speech in the House of Commons in vigorous denunciation of the House of Lords, was another very entertaining feature of the proceedings, the reproduction of the tone and voice being remarkably clear and distinct. Snatches of ditties sang on the stage before the instrument by persons from the audience were very faithfully repeated and enhanced the interest in the proceedings. The clever humorous musical sketches and pianoforte playing of Mr. Oldbury Brough furnished very pleasing variety.
Isle of Wight County Press and South of England Reporter, Saturday 25 June 1898, p. 8.
