Father's Hat or Guy Fawkes Day

A TOPICAL COMIC. NATURAL SCENES. BRIGHT AND FUNNY.
SCENE 1.-THE BACK GARDEN OF MR JONES'S SUBURBAN RESIDENCE. A guy is seated upon a chair placed upon a table in the foreground. The dear children have stolen father's hat, and they come running from the house carrying the topper with care, and, scrambling on to the table, they arrange the hat on the guy to the best effect. Next they stuff some straw, all ready, round the feet and run off to fetch some paraffin to make a good blaze.
Father, however, is on their track, and turns up just as the children have gone and, having rescued his hat, he thinks of a plan to catch the children on the hop. First he removes the guy-then slips the mask on to his own face, and, jumping on to the table, he takes the chair and waits.
SCENE 2.-The dear children are gathered round a huge barrel from which they are drawing a bucketful of paraffin; presently they run off.
SCENE 3.-Shows father seated as we left him, and the children, carrying the bucket, come hurrying in. Father waits for them to light the straw, not knowing of the paraffin which in behind him. Little Mary does not know that the guy has changed into father, and she throws the paraffin right over him-screams, fire ! fire !-father in flames-off run the children-father scrambles out of the flames and gives chase.

Des enfants ont décidé de brûler joyeusement un mannequin et ont pris le chapeau de papa pour le coiffer. Celui-ci, pour effrayer les enfants, prend la place du mannequin, mais il est lui-même victime du subterfuge. Les enfants l'arrosent de pétrole et se sauvent après avoir mis le feu au bûcher.
